White,
red and Rosé wines. AOC in 1985.
Controlled
Cultivation Zone : between Carcassonne, Perpignan, Narbonne and
Quillan. Mixed soil with amazing relief sculpted by winds. Crowned
by the Cathares citadel, the Corbières ranges stretches
on 23 000 ha among which 14 000 are in production.
Geology : a wide variety of soils (schist, limestone, marl). This
diversity is the product of 11 terroirs shared between the Hautes
Corbières, Corbières Centrale et the Corbières
Maritimes.
Climate : dominated by the Mediterranean influence which is the
characteristic of the garrigue type of vegetation. The most Westernly
exposed terroirs have oceanic influence.
Grape-varieties : Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan
and Cinsault for the red and the rosés wines. Le Grenache
blanc, Bouboulenc, Maccabeu, Marsanne, Roussanne for the white
wines.
Vinification:
Red wines : traditional fermentation or whole grain vinification
Rosés wines : bleeding method
White wines : traditional, skin maceration, vinification in casks.
Caracteristics
: the red wines are intense, rich and fleshy with notes of spice
and bell-peppers. The tannic structure is rich and blended, a
characteristic which gives the Corbières wines a good potential
for ageing. The white wines are fine and floral with a perfect
harmony between onctuousness and vividness. The rosés are
lively and pleasant.
