red wines. Classified A.O.C. in 1948.
Controlled Cultivation Zone : there are 2 producing zones. The
arid and steep-sided slopes hemmed in South-Eastward of the Corbières
massif and the soil of the coast (Fitou is found there) the cradle
of the appelation (ie. category of grape-variety). Geology : clayey
and chalky soils for the coastal part of the terroir. The mountainous
zone are characterized by shallow schistous soils.
Climate : Mediterranean. The hinterland, isolated from the sea
by a rocky barrier is a lot drier.
Grape-variety : the Carignan variety on its favorite grounds complemented
by the Grenache noir (black). The Syrah and Mourvèdre give
flavor and a good palate length. Vinification : alliance of 2
types of fermentation - traditional method and method fermenting
the whole grape.
Caracteristics : some of these wines calls to mind the South-West
by their aromas and their fruity tastes. Other are more marked
by the Grenache or Syrah
