Museum "l'école des Mines" - 6 , avenues

One hour guided visit during which one discovers 700 samples of
rocks and minerals from all over the world.It's a real invitation
to the discovery of history , and the earth in a modern environment.

This museum has donated its private collections to the to the city
of Alès : engravings , sculptures , paintings , sketches
; painters such as Picasso , Claudel , Miro and many
Others.

Colombier - parc du Colombier 04 66 86 30 40 : archeological
museum housed in an 18th century castle. Among its collection are
masterworks dating from the 16th to the 20th centuries , ancient
vestiges as old as 300,000 years. To be noted is the magnificent
pigeon house from the time of Louis XIII.

MONUMENTS
Cathedral Saint Jean : In the center of the old town , built
on the ruins of a Roman temple. A curious combination of Roman and
Renaissance architecture. It has a XVth century bell-tower and magnificent
large organs.
Fort
Vauban and jardins du Bousquet : a prison built during the times
of Vauban for the Protestants. It remains a prison today . Its terraces
can be accessed to admire the Bousquet gardens.

de l'Hermitage : this hill offers the best view of Alès
, this is where the gigantic remains of the pre-Roman wall of the
Oppidum rest and also stands the Notre Dame chapel (site of pilgrimage).
