Béziers, a strictly linked city to vine-growing

The name Béziers is strictly linked to that of the Languedocian wine growing; the art of fermenting the raisons is practised here since the beginning of our era. The Biterrois spirit is ,but also, the "feria" held at the end of August, the "corridas" and the rugby matches. Built on top of a ridge, Bézier dominates the Orb river and its large plain dedicated to vine-growing.

 

LE BITERROIS
The region biterrois comprises the plains,(dedicated to vine-growing), the sea, and the mountains.
The Coastline : Valras-Plage, with its huge sandy beach, is the balcony which over-looks the Beziérs sea. The beach resort has kept a traditional character with its small fish market and its trawlers.
The Haut-Languedoc : this region is an invitation to discover a small island appreciated for its greenery, priviledged situation in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of Haut-Languedoc. For those who leave Beziers in this direction it is a site not to miss. One needs to follow the valley of the Orb river, to discover a welcoming wild nature filled with history. This valley stretches accross sunny villages,typically Mediterranean. The Orb valley; it is also the occassion to practise canoeing/kayaking. .
The Hauts-Cantons
The ascension of 'Col de Fonfroide' (942m) ends on to a plateau covered with heather and genista (broom). The travellers will discover the villages of Cambonand Salvergues (fortified church) From Col de Madale, one can descend toward Lmalou-Les-Bains, a thermal resort.
