Important dates that marked Gange

The tradition of silk stocking at the time of Louis XIV made the glory of Ganges which quickly became the capital of silk stockings. A highly qualified workmanship that was transmitted from one generation to the other. This popularity benefited the whole region which therefore invested in the business silk worm raising.

 

 
 

In about the middle of the XVII century , a dramatic family affaire occured at the Ganges castle. It is the story of ravishing marquise of Ganges who was nicknamed the "la belle provençale". She assassinated by her two brother-laws whose advances she refused. They were aided by her husband who wanted to inherit her grand fortune.She survived the sword wounds inflicted on her but died after nine days due to the poisoning. Her assassinators received the death sentence and her husband was banished.
The 24th of August 1944 , 3000 Germans tried to take over the city of Ganges.It was defended by the marquis of Aigoual-Cévennes who after ten hours of fierce battle succeeded to push the enemy away.
